Biography
Professor Ala is an experienced Consultant in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation, UK. He graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Hospitals in 1992 and completed postgraduate studies at King’s College Hospital, UK. He underwent Gastroenterology and Hepatology training at King’s College and Royal Free Hospital, followed by an Advanced Liver Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital focused on liver and bowel diseases. His Ph.D. from University College London focused on immune and inflammatory mechanisms in gut and liver disease. Professor Ala is the South East Coast England NIHR Lead for liver disease, member of the NICE Team in developing the 2013 Guidelines Hepatitis B management, NHS England Hepatitis C Advisory Group, regional Clinical Reference Group (CRG) representative for liver, bile duct and pancreatic disease. His research interests in the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine at University of Surrey include inherited/metabolic liver diseases, Wilson disease, and community and outreach programmes.
