Biography
Mr. Thompson Dean, also known as Tom, has been Executive Chairman of Avista Healthcare Public Acquisition Corp. since December 4, 2015. Mr. Dean serves as the Co-Managing Partner and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Avista Capital Holdings, L.P. Mr. Dean co-founded Avista Capital Holdings in 2005 and serves as an Advisor of Sharebridge Holdings, Inc. Mr. Dean serves as an Advisor of Vanbridge Holdings Ltd. He served as Managing Partner at aPriori Capital Partners L.P. He served as the President of DeCrane Holdings Co., from its inception in 1998 to August 2002. Mr. Dean served as Managing Partner of DLJ Merchant Banking Partners from November 1995 to 2005. He served as a Co-Managing Partner of DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, led DLJ Merchant Banking Partners for 10 years. He served as the Head of Leveraged Corporate Private Equity for Credit Suisse Private Equity, LLC (also known as Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB)) and DLJ Merchant Banking Partners III, L.P. since November 2000 and its Managing Director since 1991. He served as Managing Director and Head of Leveraged Corporate Private Equity at DLJ Investment Partners I, L.P. and DLJ Merchant Banking Partners IV, L.P. He joined CSFB in November 2000. Mr. Dean was responsible for CSFB's worldwide leveraged buyout business. He served as a Managing Director of DLJ Merchant Banking Inc. and its predecessor since January 1992. He joined DLJ in 1988 as Vice President in DLJ's Merchant Banking Group. He was with Goldman Sachs & Co., where he was a Vice President in the special finance group (leveraged transactions). He serves as Chairman of the Board of Jostens Holding Corp. He serves as Director at Acino AG. He is a co-owner of Avista Acquisition, LLC. Mr. Dean has been Director of Acino International AG since December 17, 2013. He serves as Director of AKI Holdings SA, Direct Holdings, Sidewinder Drilling and Zest Anchors. He has been Director of Ref-Fuel Holdings since July 2004. He serves as a Director of ThermaSys Group Holding Company, Trimb Holding AB, Databank Holdings, ConvaTec Healthcare B S.a.r.l. He serves on the Boards of Instant Web, Inc., and NextPharma Technologies Holding Limited. Mr. Dean serves as Director of United American Energy Corp. Mr. Dean serves as a Trustee of the Eaglebrook School and Choate Rosemary Hall. He has been a Director of VWR International LLC since September 2007. He served as the Chairman of the Board and a Director of DeCrane Holdings Co. and DeCrane Aerospace, Inc. since 1998. He served as the Chairman and Director of AKI Holding Corp., since December 1997. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Fiberite, Nycomed SICAR S.C.A., Arcade Holding Corporation, Nycomed Holding ApS, Techno Quartz Inc., Mueller Water Products, Inc, IVAC, Takeda Pharmaceuticals International GmbH, Katz Media Group, Inc., Coastal Capital Funding, Celestica, The Mueller Group, Inc., Mueller Holdings (N.A.), Inc., Von Hoffman Corporation and Von Hoffman Holdings, Inc. He served as a Director of VWR Funding, Inc since September 2007. He served as the Chairman and Director of Mueller Group, LLC. He served as a Director of The Mueller Group, Inc., Manufacturers' Services Ltd. and Charles River Laboratories International, Inc. He served as a Director of Convatec Group Plc (alternate name ConvaTec Inc.). Mr. Dean served as a Director of Insilco Holding Co. since August 17, 1998, Nycomed International Management GmbH since October 24, 2002, Msw Energy Holdings LLC and MSW Energy Holdings II LLC since July 2004 and Formica Corporation since May 1998. He served as an Independent Director of VWR Corporation since September 2007 until April 6 2016. He served as a Director of Merrill Corporation since March 2004, Visant Holding Corp., and Visant Corporation until January 16, 2007. He served as a Director of Safilo Group S.p.A. until February 2006. He served as a Member of the College Foundation Board of the University of Virginia. Mr. Dean received an M.B.A. with high distinction from Harvard Business School in 1984, where he was a Baker Scholar and a B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1979, where he was an Echols Scholar.
