Biography
Dr. Thomas Widmann is a Venture Partner at Wellington Partners Venture Capital GmbH. Dr. Widmann is a Venture Partner of Wellington Ventures. Dr. Widmann serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Cardiovascular Associate at University of California - San Diego. Dr. Widmann serves as an Investment Partner of Wellington Partners Ventures III Life Science Fund. He is a part of the life science team. He joined it in March 2003 as a Venture Partner and also served as General Partner. He co-founded Actelion in 1997, where he served as the first Chief Executive Officer until 1999. Dr. Widmann played an instrumental role in it's growth, IPO and secondary offering raising a total of CHF 670 million and in the internationalization of the business and the formation of more than 20 subsidiaries worldwide. He also co-founded Hesperion in 1996. From 1987 to 1996, Dr. Widmann served as a Vice President and Head of International Cardiovascular Clinical Research at Hoffmann-La Roche, where he brought three drugs to international markets. Prior to Hoffman-La Roche, he served for six years at the University of California at San Diego as an Assistant Professor of Cardiology. Dr. Widmann formed his first company, Triton Technology in the early 1980s. He served as the Chairman of Supervisory Board of immatics biotechnologies GmbH. He served as a Non Executive Director of Trigen Holdings AG. He served as a Director of Symetis AG. Dr. Widmann is a Member of the Supervisory Board of Trigen Holdings AG since October 11, 2005. Dr. Widmann is a seasoned entrepreneur in the life science business. He studied Medicine and Computer Science at the Universities of Heidelberg and Paris and holds an M.D. from the University of Heidelberg. Dr. Widmann's specialization in Cardiology was obtained at the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
