Biography
Dr. José de Chastonay, Ph.D., MBA serves as Current Senior Advisor at Wombat Capital. Dr. de Chastonay serves as Scientific Advisor at Q BioMed Inc. Dr. de Chastonay has been the Chief Marketing Officer of Bachem Holding AG. since 2012. Dr. de Chastonay is helping RAPID to achieve key milestones in its peptide manufacturing life cycle management. His deepened knowledge and interest in peptide manufacturing is greatly appreciated by the industry. Over 25 years experience in Life Sciences, including managerial positions at F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG, Basel-Diagnostic Division and Ares Serono. His extensive relationships and expertise in the Pharmaceutical, Manufacturing (Fermentation, Cell Culture, APIs and Peptides), Vaccines, Generics and Medical Devices sectors in North America and Europe. Accomplished virologist, having manufactured a veterinary rabies vaccine and conducted anti-viral compound studies. He started his career with Bachem at its headquarter facility in Switzerland, in January 1991. In 1996, following the acquisition of Bachem California, he relocated to Torrance in order to develop the volume active manufacturing business of the group in the US. He served as the President at Bachem Americas at Bachem Holding AG since 2000 and was responsible for growing the business in the Americas for all Bachem Group companies. He served as International Product Lines Manager for the Roche Diagnostic Division in Basel and as Assistant Director of Biotechnology for Serono in Aubonne. He served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Irvine Scientific Sales Company, Inc. He served as Member of Strategic Advisory Board at Rapid Pharmaceuticals AG. He started his career with Bachem at its headquarter facility in Switzerland, in January 1991. Since 1992, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Bachem Bioscience in Philadelphia. He served as a Member of the Board of Irvine Scientific Sales Company Inc. He was Board member of Viroblock SA. His University work centered on a project for the eradication of rabies from Switzerland, using a live attenuated rabies vaccine and in the elucidation of the replication cycle of the Hepatitis A virus in MRC-5 cells. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, he was responsible for the Cell Culture Facility of the Institute for Hygiene at the Inselspital in Bern and focused his research work on persistent viral infections. He is Fluent in English, French and German. He holds Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology from University of Bern, Switzerland and MBA from European University, Montreux, Switzerland.
