Biography
Andreas Stemmer has been Full Professor of Nanotechnology at ETH Zurich since October 1, 2004. Andreas Stemmer, born on 18 February 1962, from Basel, studied at the university there and graduated in physics. He then went to the ME Müller Institute at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel, where he completed a second degree in molecular biology with the certificate of the Swiss Commission for Molecular Biology (SKMB) and his doctorate in biophysics in 1990. After visiting research as a Visiting Scientist (1990-92) at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK, he was an Assistant Scientist (1992-95) at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA, USA. Then he was assistant professor (1995-2001) and associate professor (2001-2004) for nanotechnology at the ETH Zurich.
Research Interest
His research focuses on the controlled and intelligent interaction with the smallest structures and integrates transdisciplinary knowledge from physics, engineering, biology and medicine.
