Biography
Lucio Isa has been an Assistant Professor (SNFS Professorship from the Swiss National Science Foundation) of Interfaces, Soft matter and Assembly since September 2013. He was born in Italy in 1979. Lucio Isa obtained a PhD in Soft Matter Physics at the University of Edinburgh, UK, in 2008. After a short postdoctoral spell in Edinburgh he moved to the Materials Department of ETH Zurich at the end of 2008 to work in the Laboratory for Surface Science and Technology. In 2012 he was awarded a SNSF travel grant as visiting fellow at the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA. Since September 2013 Lucio Isa has been heading the Laboratory for Interfaces, Soft matter and Assembly in the Department of Materials at ETH Zurich.
Research Interest
Professor Isa’s research focuses on liquid-liquid and liquid-solid interfaces and particularly on the behaviour of nanoparticles at liquid-liquid interfaces. Such systems can be used as tools to assemble special nanoparticle structures and as models for complex atomic and molecular materials.
