Philipp Rudolf Von Rohr

Biography

Philipp Rudolf von Rohr has been Full Professor of Process Engineering at the Institute of ETH Zurich since October 1, 1992. He studied mechanical engineering at ETH Zurich, majoring in process engineering. He then worked under the direction of Professor Trepp as an assistant and later on the doctoral thesis, which he successfully completed in 1983. The Swiss National Science Foundation granted him a scholarship to study at MIT in Cambridge, USA, in the field of small cryogenic systems. Afterwards, he returned to the ETH and supervised students and doctoral students as assistant professor to Professor Widmer. He was also a lecturer at the ETH for seven years. At the end of 1985 he started his career in a company in the field of process engineering apparatus engineering with a focus on environmental technology. At the beginning of the year 1990 he took over the technical management of the company. Based on his research interests, he founded the Laboratory for Transport Processes and Reactions in 1998.

Research Interest

His research focuses on three main areas, namely transport processes, in particular heat and momentum exchange, plasma assisted surface treatment and high pressure micro and macro scale processes. In all his works considerations of scale transfer play a central role. He is an active member of national and international specialized organizations, among others the European Federation of Chemical Engineers (EFCE) and the Swiss Society of Process and Chemical Engineers. Among other things, he heads the multiphase flow group of the EFCE.
