Peter Schmid

Biography

    Peter Schmid  is a Swiss politician . From 1979 to 1998 he belonged to the government council of the canton of Berne . he is the son of a teacher visited the schools in Rüti and Solothurn . He completed the Matura type A at the Kantonsschule Solothurn . He then studied law at the University of Bern and graduated with the licentiate . In 1967, he won the bernish advocate. As the general secretary of the farmers ', trade and citizens' party (BGB) at that time, Peter Schmid was a driving force behind the founding of the Swiss People's Party (SVP) by the merger of the BGB with the Democratic parties of the cantons of Glarus [3] and Graubünden . [4] Afterwards he worked as secretary of the SVP Switzerland and the SVP of the canton of Berne. From 1971 to 1978 he belonged to the municipal council of his residential community Münchenbuchsee . In 1974 he became a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Berneand, in 1979, to the government council, from which he resigned as the most ambitious member in 1998. [2] He was repeatedly seen as a possible candidate for the Federal Council . From 1979 to 1990, Peter Schmid headed the judicial department of the canton of Berne, and from 1986 to 1990 he was also director of the commune. From 1990 he was head of the education department. It is regarded as a leading pioneer in the total revision of the constitution of the canton of Berne and carried out the overall revision of the Berne Education Act, which had been initiated by the Grand Council in 1985.  From 1993 to 1998, he was President of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Education Directors . In 2008, Peter Schmid, unlike his younger brother, then Samuel Schmid , did not change from the SVP to the BDP
