Biography
Research Staff Member at the Cloud and Computing Infrastructure at IBM Research Zurich. Working on distributed flash caching, flash controller optimizations, data deduplication, and storage class memories. Currently, I am interested in building efficient distributed data storage systems for commodity datacenters using non-volatile memories over fast interconnects. Projects that I am involved with include the IBM FlashSystem, the IBM Easy Tier Server for DS8000 storage, the SALSA unified software storage stack for SSDs and SMR drives, and the iostash flash caching open-source project. Also, I am working on an efficient distributed NoSQL data store optimized for NVMe storage (Flash- and 3DXP-based SSDs). Prior joining IBM, I did my PhD at the CArD group at the University of Edinburgh, supervised by Marcelo Cintra. My thesis focused on Thread-Level Speculation for multi-threaded applications running on a many-core shared memory processor, and on power management of such applications. Before that, I completed my undergraduate studies at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) with a major in Computer Science.
