Biography

Peter Buhler is manager of the Industry and Cloud Solutions Department at the IBM Research - Zurich Laboratory. The department is focused on design and development of novel software systems and industry applications. The key research areas of the department are Security, Distributed Systems and Cloud, Systems Management, Business Optimization, and Services Analytics. Peter Buhler received his Diploma degree in Computer Science and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, in 1986 and 1993, respectively. He joined the IBM Research – Zurich laboratory in Rueschlikon, Switzerland, as a Research Staff Member in 1995. Since 1999, he has held various management positions and in 2008 was named head of the Computer Science Department of IBM Research – Zurich. Peter Buhler has a broad innovation management and computer science background with particular focus on operating systems, distributed systems and cloud technology, communication protocols, embedded systems, and security solutions. His practical architecture, design, and implementation skills allow him to actively participate and lead innovation and development projects as well as to effectively plan and assess project execution. He can lead and guide teams from defining a vision thought system design to its implementation and productization.
