Biography
Simeon Furrer received the Dipl.-Ing. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland, in 1999 and 2005, respectively. He was a Pre-Doctoral Researcher of Short-Range Radio Communication and Sensor Networks with IBM Research – Zurich, in Rüschlikon, Switzerland. He was a Principal Scientist with Broadcom Corporation, Sunnyvale, CA, USA, from 2005 to 2010, where he was involved in the design and architecture of IEEE 802.11n-compliant multiple input multiple output (MIMO) wireless local-area network (WLAN) chipsets. Dr. Furrer joined the Cloud and Computing Infrastructure Department of IBM Research – Zurich in 2010 as a Research Staff Member. He is currently focusing on advanced signal-processing algorithms for tape read channels and servo control aspects to improve storage capacity. His current research interests include data communication and storage systems, signal processing, detection, and estimation.
