Biography
Yannick Baumgartner is a pre-doctoral researcher in the Material Integration and Nanoscale Devices (MIND) group at IBM Research, Zurich. As part of the DIMENSION project, his work focuses on the monolithic integration of ultra-thin III-V/Si hybrid lateral current injection (LCI) lasers in the Si CMOS back end of line, allowing to extend the silicon CMOS platform with photonics functionality. His work has strong synergies with the Neuromorphic Devices and Systems team. Yannick is working toward his Ph.D. degree in Physics under the supervision Prof. Dr. Jérôme Faist from the Quantum Optoelectronics research group of ETH Zürich, Switzerland. Prior to his arrival at IBM Research, Yannick was a student at EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland, where he received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Materials Science. As a student, he has been working as an intern at ABB and Rolex research centers and accomplished his Master thesis at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and University of California, Berkeley, USA.
