Biography
Dr Merlo is Assistant Professor in Marketing at Imperial College Business School. Previously he was Lecturer at Cambridge Judge Business School and Lecturer at the University of Melbourne in Australia. He has held visiting Professor positions at the University of Oxford, the University of Lausanne, the University of Lugano, the Helsinki School of Economics, Aalto University, and Yonsei Graduate School of Management. He’s currently also a Fellow of Cambridge Judge Business School. Dr Merlo holds degrees in Political Science and in Economics & Commerce, and a Master in Business Strategy. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Marketing Strategy from the University of Melbourne. His main research interests are in the areas of marketing strategy, marketing’s role and contribution to business performance, services marketing and customer relationship management. His research has appeared in numerous academic journals, including MIT Sloan Management Review, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Service Research, Marketing Letters, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Strategic Marketing, European Journal of Marketing, Marketing Theory, and others. Dr Merlo has won several awards and grants for his research, including an American Marketing Association best paper award, a European Union Award for Excellence, and a fellowship from the Swiss National Science Fund. Dr Merlo teaches and consults in a variety of areas including marketing management, strategic customer management, branding, digital marketing, high-tech marketing and global marketing. He has been awarded numerous awards for his teaching performance. As a consultant and executive educator, he has worked with clients such as McKinsey & Co., Finmeccanica, Essex County Council, Petronas, The Gap, Beijing Capital Land, Astellas, Canon, Agricultural Bank of China, Qatar Commercial Bank, ARM, Laing O'Rourke, KPN, Illy Coffee, Ernst & Young, the University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, Oxford Analytica, Cambridge Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Itella, Telstra, the Australian Telecommunications Authority, and Australia Post among others.
