Biography
Andrew de Mello has been Professor of Biochemical Engineering in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at ETH Zurich since 2011. He was born in London, UK. Professor de Mello obtained a First Class Honours degree in Chemistry from Imperial College London in 1992 and was awarded a Ph.D. in Molecular Photophysics at the same institution in 1995. After carrying out postdoctoral work with Richard A. Mathies at the University of California, Berkeley he returned to the UK and joined the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London as the AstraZeneca Lecturer of Analytical Sciences in 1997. He was promoted to the rank of (Full) Professor of Chemical Nanosciences in January 2004.
