Biography

Emmanuel Frossard has been Associate Professor of Plant Nutrition at the Institute of Plant Sciences at the ETH Zurich since October 1994. Prof. Frossard was born on August 9, 1960 in Cherbourg (F). He studied at the Department of Agriculture and Food Science at the Institut National Polytechnique Lorraine in Nancy, France (ENSAIA-INPL). After completing his doctorate at the ENSAIA INPL, he spent two years as a postdoc fellow in the Department of Soil Science at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. He became then a member of the Group for Crop Production at the ENSAIA-INPL for seven years before becoming Associate Professor of Plant Nutrition at the ETH Zurich.

Research Interest

Prof. Frossard-s group concentrates largely on 1) determining the availability of anorganic elements for plants using radioisotopes, 2) the dynamics of anorganic elements in the rhizosphere, 3) the effects of the effects of soil preperation on the activity of mycorrhizal fungi and or plant nutrition, 4) the role of microbial biomasses of the microbial biomass on N and P cycles in oil plant systems and 5) the recycling of nutrients in farmyard manure, sewage sludge and compost in agriculture.
