Biography
Cesare Gessler, born in 1949 from Maggia Ticino, was awarded 2006 the title of Professor (Titularprofessor) at ETH Zurich. He leads a research group in plant pathology at the Institute of Integrative Biology, Department of Agronomy, on diseases of perennial crops and teaches plant pathology-epidemiology and diagnostics . From 2003 to 2008 Professor Gessler acted also scientific director of a newly established centre for research and development of crop protection with low environmental and consumer health impact (SafeCrop) in San Michele (Trento, Italy).
