Biography
Irena Hajnsek has been Associate Professor of Earth Observation and Remote Sensing at the Institute of Environmental Engineering in the Department Civil, Environmental, and Geomatic Engineering since 2009. She was born in Ljubljana, Slowenia in 1970. She graduated 1996 with a diploma degree in Geography from the Free University of Berlin, Germany and received her doctoral degree (First class honours) from the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Germany, in 2001. From 1996 to 1999 Irena Hajnsek worked at the Microwaves and Radar Institute (DLR-HR) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. After research periods in the frame of EC-TMR Networking at the University of Rennes, France (ten months) and AEL, St. Andrews, Scotland, she returned in November 2000 to DLR-HR, Oberpfaffenhofen, where she was the leader of the group of Polarimetric SAR interferometry. She is the science coordinator of the German satellite mission TanDEM-X.
Research Interest
Electromagnetic propagation and scattering theory, radar polarimetry, polarimetric SAR interferometric data processing techniques and environmental parameter modeling and estimation.
