Biography
Before joining ETH, Johan Lilliestam worked as research assistant from 2007 to 2013 at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) in Potsdam, Germany. Between 2009 and 2013, he also held position as research assistant at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, Austria. In 2013, he earned his doctorate in Environmental science and policy at the Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, Hungary, for his thesis on the energy security of renewable electricity imports to Europe from North Africa and the Middle East.
Research Interest
Johan Lilliestam joined ETH Zürich in December 2013 as senior researcher and lecturer in the Climate Policy Group. He conducts problem-driven, interdisciplinary research about a transition to a fully renewable electricity system in Europe and neighboring regions. His current research focuses on policies and strategies for a transition to renewables, including the effects of interactions between different policies, acceptance or opposition of different electricity visions, as well as energy security of renewable electricity systems. In 2016, Johan Lilliestam was awarded a grant from the European Research Council for work on policy interactions with the transition to a renewable power system in Europe. The project will start during 2017.
