Biography
Walter Meier was director of the Swiss Federal Research Station for Agricultural Economics and Engineering of Tanikon until August 2004. In 1995 he was awarded the title of Professor at ETH Zurich. He retired in 2007. Born on December 5, 1942, from Eglisau ZH, Walter Meier studied agriculture at the ETH Zurich after having completed a practical and professional training. He worked as research assistant at the Institute of Agricultural Economics of the ETH Zurich and graduated in 1973. During 6 years he was director of this institute. In 1981 he was appointed director of the Swiss Federal Research Station for Agricultural Economics and Engineering of Tanikon. As agricultural economist he focused his scientific work and research activities on issues of production branch economy, agricultural accounting as well as investment and financing in the field of agriculture. In 1975 he began giving lectures at ETH Zurich.
