Biography
Jean-Philippe Schütz was appointed Full Professor of Silviculture in 1983. He held the independent Chair of Silviculture at the Department Environmental Sciences at the ETH Zurich. He retired in September 2004. Prof. Schütz was born on 4 June 1939 and comes from Thielle-Wavre NE. He studied in the Department of Forest and Wood Sciences at the ETH Zurich (1958-1963). His doctorate was earned under Professor H. Leibundgut in 1968. He directed for four years the Forestry Office of Couvet in the canton of Neuchâtel. Later he headed the forest yield research group at the EAFV (today the WSL, Research Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape), in Birmensdorf (1971-1979).
Research Interest
The main focus of his research was on the future development of silvicultural systems close to nature forestry, in particular the selection system, and on understanding the composition of the mixed forest.
