Biography
THEO LASSER G born in 1952 in Lauchheim (Baden-Württemberg). After studying physics at Fridericiana University in Karlsruhe, he obtained his degree in physics in 1978. In 1979, he joined the Franco-German Research Institute in Saint-Louis (France) as a scientific collaborator. In 1986, he joined the research division of Carl Zeiss in Oberkochen (Germany) where he mainly develops various laser systems for medical applications. In 1990, he led the laser division of the medical division. In 1993, he took over the management of the "Ophthalmic Laser" unit. From the beginning of 1995, he was responsible for restructuring and regrouping the numerous ophthalmology activities at Carl Zeiss and transferring them to Jena. During this period, he realized new refractive instruments, biomicroscopes and retinal cameras. In January 1998, he directed Carl Zeiss's research in Jena where he initiated new projects in microscopy, microtechnology and medical research. In July 1998, he was appointed a Professor of Biomedical Optics at the Institute of Applied Optics. Within the Department of Microtechnology, his research activity focuses on biomedical photonics. He participates in the teaching of optics and biomedical instrumentation.
