Biography
Oversees TDR’s activities and development of its policies, strategy and budget for submission to TDR’s governing bodies, the WHO Executive Board, and the World Health Assembly. John, a UK-born naturalised Australian, joined TDR in February 2012. Previously he was Director of the Centre for Population Health and Head of the Office of International Health Research at the Burnet Institute, Melbourne, and before that the Director of the Papua New Guinea Institute of Medical Research. After completing his PhD in microbiology from Manchester, John’s career path was shaped when he decided to volunteer in Papua New Guinea in his early career. The relationship he built with Papua New Guinea and Australia developed over the years with research posts in both places.
Research Interest
His international experiences led him to be a strong supporter of the global research effort, and an advocate for research design to take account of its final goal.
