Biography

Curriculum Vitae Karin Wuertz-Kozak, who was born in 1978 in Germany, received her degree as a Registered Pharmacists from the University of Regensburg in Germany in 2003. In 2006, she obtained her PhD in Human Biology from the University of Ulm in Germany and completed her education with an MBA in Leadership and Sustainability from the University of Cumbria in 2015 and a habilitation (venia legendi) at the ETH Zurich in 2016. Since her PhD, she has gained intensive research experience through a Postdoc at the University of Vermont in the United States (2006-2007) and a subsequent position at the Competence Center for Applied Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine at the University of Zurich. After a transitional period with a double affiliation at the University of Zurich and the ETH Zurich in 2011, she finally joined the Institute for Biomechanics at the ETH Zurich completely in 2012, where she functioned as the head of the Tissue Mechanobiology Group in the Laboratory for Orthopaedic Technology until June 2016. In July 2016, she was promoted to an SNF Assistant Professor and since then operates as the head of the Laboratory for Immunoengineering & Regenerative Medicine. Furthermore, she currently holds a Guest Professorship at the University of Potsdam (Germany) and functions as a scientific consultant for the Schön Clinic Group in Germany, with a part-time appointment as their Head of Science Office Spine.

Research Interest

Karin Wuertz-Kozak is the author of over 35 peer-reviewed publications in international scientific journals and acts as a reviewer for more than 20 journals as well as several societies and funding agencies. She is a member of the editorial and advisory board of 4 journals and has been involved in the program committee of the Spine Society of Europe, the Task Force “+RM” of the Swiss Society for Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine and the PharmaSuisse Exam Board. Furthermore, she serves as the Biosafety Officer of the Laboratory for Orthopaedic Technology and the Laboratory for Immunoengineering & Regenerative Medicine, is a Member of the Department’s Teaching Commission and is the organizer of a Scientific Exchange Program with the Fukushima Medical School in Japan. Karin Wuertz-Kozak has received research funding from numerous funding agencies and societies, including the SNF, CTI, Sciex, AO Foundation, Holcim Foundation, Mäxi Foundation, Herzog-Egli Foundation, German Spine Society, Spine Society of Europe, Swisslife Foundation and ETH Equipment Foundation
