Ursula Jasper

Biography

Ursula Jasper is a senior researcher at the Center for Security Studies (CSS). She holds a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of St. Gallen (for her thesis on The Politics of Nuclear Reversal – A Pragmatist Analysis) and a Master's degree in International Politics and Security Studies from the University of Bradford (UK). Prior to joining CSS, she was a research assistant at the University of St. Gallen and a pre-doctoral fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University (funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation). She has also worked as a journalist in the past.

Research Interest

In her research, Ursula Jasper focuses on sociological approaches to security studies in general and to nuclear (non-)proliferation in particular. Using the literature on American Pragmatism as a theoretical point of departure, she develops an alternative framework for the analysis of states' nuclear policies. Her current projects moreover include a study related to forward reasoning and policy advice as well as research on the intersection of security, risk and public health.
