Biography

Dr. Stefan Schurch from 1985-1990 Graduate studies in chemistry, University of Berne. 1990-1995 Ph.D. thesis at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, University of Bern (Prof. Urs P. Schlunegger). 1995-1997 Post-doc at the Department of Chemistry, University of California at Riverside (Prof. Charles L. Wilkins). 1997-2003 Assistant to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Bern. Since 1997 Head of the mass spectrometry group. 2003-2016 Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. 2007 Venia Docendi in analytical chemistry (Habilitation), Faculty of Science, University of Bern. Since 2017 Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry, University of Bern

Research Interest

The general focus of research is on the mass spectrometric characterization of nucleic acids and their therapeutically relevant analogues. Besides elucidation of the gas-phase behavior of oligonucleotides, we use mass spectrometry as a tool to gain insight into nucleic acids. Further research activities are performed on a comprehensive characterization of spider hemolymph and venom components.
