Biography
Joël Wagner is Full Professor in the Department of Actuarial Science at the HEC Faculty of the University of Lausanne. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics and an engineering degree in Physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). During his doctoral studies, he was also a visiting research associate at the University of Houston (2002, 2003). From 2006 to 2009 he was a consultant in the Financial Services and Insurance practice of The Boston Consulting Group. Prof. Wagner’s research includes asset and liability management in insurance companies, pension schemes and innovative products to address insurance gaps, e.g., in the domain of financing long-term care or pensions. Through this research, he contributes to critical and constructive discussions about Swiss policy and the Swiss financial industry. In addition to his duties as full professor of Actuarial Science at the University of Lausanne, Prof. Wagner is committed to conveying relevant academic research to industry. He regularly teaches in continuing education programs, and develops in-house training and workshops for executives and board members with various Swiss insurance companies.

His research focuses on current topics in risk management and insurance.
