Biography
Tomi Laamanen is Chaired Professor of Strategic Management, Director of the Institute of Management, Director of the PhD Program of General Management, and Academic Director of the Strategy and International Management Master (SIM) Program of the University of St.Gallen. Before University of St.Gallen he was Professor of Strategic Management and Director of the Institute of Strategy at Aalto University (1997-2011), Dean of the Department of Management (TKK, Tuotantotalous) (2001-2002), and External visiting professor at the St.Petersburg State University’s Graduate School of Management (GSOM) (2011-2013). Tomi Laamanen holds two D.Sc. degrees; one in Strategy and one in Finance. Professor Laamanen’s research covers the strategic management field broadly ranging from corporate strategy to strategy execution. The special emphasis of his research is on mergers and acquisitions, and in particular, acquisition programs and serial acquirers, management’s cognition, strategy processes and strategic issue management, and capability dynamics. Tomi Laamanen is former Associate Editor of Strategic Management Journal (2009-2015), Editor-in-Chief of Long Range Planning (2016-), and member of the Editorial Boards of Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Discovery, Journal of Management, and Strategic Management Journal. He has also Edited three Special Issues on “Strategy Processes and Practices” in Strategic Management Journal, “Dispersion of Corporate Headquarters of Multinational Companies” in Journal of Management Studies, and “Business Models, Ecosystems and Society in the Sharing Economy” in Academy of Management Discovery.
