Biography

Francesco Cosentino studied medicine in Rome and then continued his education in internal medicine. He then joined the Mayo Clinic Foundation as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Anesthesia and Pharmacology Research in Nitric Oxide Synthase, Tetrahydrobiopterin in Endothelial Dysfunction. He was able to publish numerous important works with Prof. Zvonimir Katusic. In 1993, he joined the Cardiovascular Research Group of Prof. Thomas F. Lüscher in cardiology at the Inselspital Bern as a postdoctoral fellow. He subsequently worked as a Ricercatore at the Università la Sapienza in Rome and Cardiovascular Research at the Institute of Physiology at the University of Zurich. In 2004 he completed a clinical sabbatical at the Department of Cardiology of the University Hospital Zurich. In 2005 he was appointed Associate Professor of Cardiology at the Università la Sapienza in Rome. Prof. Francesco Cosentino continues to work part-time as Research Group Leader of Cardiovascular Research at the Institute of Physiology at the University of Zurich. Thanks to the collaboration between Zurich and Rome, numerous Fellows in Zurich have been able to further their education in molecular cardiology and successfully publish it. As of December 1, 2013, he was appointed Professor of Cardiology by Karolinska Institutet and Universitetssjukhuset in Stockholm, Sweden, on account of the work he was able to do in Zurich. Thanks to the collaboration between Zurich and Rome, numerous Fellows in Zurich have been able to further their education in molecular cardiology and successfully publish it. As of December 1, 2013, he was appointed Professor of Cardiology by Karolinska Institutet and Universitetssjukhuset in Stockholm, Sweden, on account of the work he was able to do in Zurich. Thanks to the collaboration between Zurich and Rome, numerous Fellows in Zurich have been able to further their education in molecular cardiology and successfully publish it. As of December 1, 2013, he was appointed Professor of Cardiology by Karolinska Institutet and Universitetssjukhuset in Stockholm, Sweden, on account of the work he was able to do in Zurich.
