Biography
Franz R. Eberli was elected Chief Surgeon of Cardiology at Triemlispital Zurich on 1 July 2007. He studied medicine in Zurich and then continued his education in internal medicine and cardiology at the University Hospital Zurich and Boston University in the USA. In research in the US, he focused primarily on metabolic changes during ischaemia and reperfusion. From 1994 he worked as a staff surgeon at the interventional cardiology of the Boston University Medical Center. In 1997 he became head of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the Department of Cardiology at the Inselspital Bern and in 2002 head of the Andreas-Grüntzig Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at the University Hospital Zurich. In his time in Zurich, the expansion of cardiology falls into various areas and the transformation into a large clinic. In interventional cardiology, interventions for congenital heart defects and in large vessels close to the heart were greatly expanded during this period. At the same time, the 24-hour service for acute coronary syndromes was optimized and the system of the ever-available Jour- and Night Doctor was introduced. Franz R.
