Biography
Lukas Altwegg studied medicine in Basel and subsequently completed a postdoc in cardiovascular research at the Department of Cardiology at the Physiological Institute of the University of Zurich, where he studied human connective growth factor. This was followed by further education in internal medicine at the Kantonsspital Baden under Prof. Hans-Jürg Beer and finally in cardiology under Prof. Thomas F. Lüscher at the University Hospital Zurich. After gaining the FMH specialist in cardiology, he moved to Vancouver to work under the pioneer of transarterial valve implantation, Prof. John Webb. After returning to Zurich, he set up the TAVI valve program with Prof. Willibald Maier. In 2012 he completed his habilitation at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich and on January 7, 2013, he graduated from St. Gallen University.
