Biography
The majority of Dr. Guan’s professional experience has been in researching, designing, building and commercializing sensing platforms for miniscule physical phenomena. He was the leading engineer/scientist of NASA's Global Troposphere Experiment (GTE) campaign, responsible for an airborne Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) Spectrometer while he worked in the Georgia Institute of Technology. That system is the mission critical unit in the campaign for traces gases measurement in real time. Dr. Guan shifted his career from academic research to industry, proceeding with his expertise in electro-opto and non-linear optics application. In Lumera Corp, he led polymeric organic material R&D, and built a clean room facility for small to medium-sized scale high speed modulator manufacturing. In 2006 Dr. Guan was assigned to lead a task-force commercialize biosensor platform for protein interaction study- an image based surface plasmon resonance instrument. He led R&D teams in ITRI EOL, focusing on coupling Taiwan’s ICT strength to the emerging bio-medical industry. In the two years of his service in ITRI, he was the strong voice who linked the optical, electro-opto and product design to bio-photonic and bio-medical applications. His work included establishing business and service contracts across local and international customers. Dr. Guan joined Abnova, a world class bioreagent company, and focused on establishing system integration/manufacturing capabilities for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. In the past three years, Abnova's team has successfully integrated disparate skill sets in microfluidics, optics, electronics, and automations while leveraging the vibrant IT industry in Taiwan. They have produced effective turn-key solutions to address the complexity of biology and to meet the needs of their customers. A highlight product line includes a diabetic rapid diagnosis kit and systems to perform liquid biopsy for circulating rare cells.
