Biography
Shashank Keshavmurthy earned his doctorate in 2008 from Kochi University, Japan. The focus of his research was on the effect of seawater temperature on the physiology of corals in a temperate coral community. Before starting his Ph.D., he worked as a research assistant at the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, India between 2000-2002. The focus of his work was on the effect of natural bleaching event on the two common coral species in Lakshadweep Atolls, India. After completing his studies, he moved to Taiwan and joined Academia Sinica with a funding form the National Science Council, Taiwan to undertake postdoctoral research on various aspects of coral research. His research mainly focuses on various aspect of coral biology in the West-Pacific along the Kuroshio Current and Indian Ocean. He has been working on coral-Symbiodinium physiology, Symbiodinium and coral molecular taxonomy, molecular ecology and connectivity. He is particularly interested in the symbiosis stress as a result of climate change in marginal communities. He is a member of Asia-Pacific Coral Reef Society, Japanese Coral Reef Society and has been a member of International Society of Reef Studies. He has already published 29 papers in various International journals of repute.
