Research Interest
Design and Control of Chemical, Energy Related and Separation Processes: Rigorous steady simulation, process design, optimization, dynamic simulation, and control strategy development of various processes. Recent research topics include: Coal gasification polygeneration processes, products can be: electricity, synthetic natural gas, ammonia, ethylene glycol, olefins, etc. Azeotropic or close boiling systems, including: diluted ethanol/water mixture, tert-butanol dehydration, N,N-dimethylacetamide/acetic acid, styrene/ethyl benzene, acetone/methanol, 1,4-dioxane/water, pyridine/water, isopropanol dehydration, MMA/MeOH/water, DMC/MeOH, EG/1,2-PDO, and utilizing ionic liquid in separation, etc. Reactive Distillation Processes, including: three kinds of carbonate esters, butyl lavulinate, esterification reaction with mixed alcohol feed, cyclohexanol, triacetin, ethylene glycol diacetate, etc. Biorenewable-based processes, including using glycerol to produce glycerol tertiary butyl ethers, 1,2-PDO, 1,3-PDO, etc. Energy-saving design of separation system or reactive-distillation process, methods including: multi-effect distillation, thermally-coupled distillation, dividing-wall distillation, vapor recompression/HIDic column, etc. Energy-related processes, including: biodiesel, cellulosic bioethanol, polyoxymethylene dimethyl ethers, etc. Hybrid separation processes, including: hybrid extraction/distillation process, hybrid pervaporation/distillation process, etc.
