Dr. Akwilina W. Mwanri

Biography

Akwilina is a lecturer in human nutrition. She involved in teaching human nutrition courses in both undergraduate and postgraduate, doing research and consultancies. Her current research includes Agriculture to nutrition linkages, non-communicable dietary related diseases, infants and young child feeding practices and building strong nutrition systems in Tanzania. She participated in the process of development of in-service training materials that included training needs assessment, curriculum development, development of training materials and training strategy. She also worked as a facilitator and co-facilitator in the Process for Promotion of Infants and Young child Feeding (ProPAN) training and Nutrition assessment short course for SADC countries conducted in Tanzania. Akwilina is good in epidemiological research designs and data analysis and qualitative research methods. She has authored/co-authored seven publications in international peer review journals on food composition, dietary intake and non-communicable dietary related diseases. She is a member of Tanzania food and nutrition association, Tanzania diabetes association and African nutrition society.

Research Interest

Akwilina holds a PhD in human nutrition (public health and epidemiology) from Wageningen University, The Netherlands; Masters of Science in Applied human nutrition from Nairobi University - Kenya and Bachelor of science in food science and technology from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania.
