Biography
John Msuya is an Associate Professor and Head of Department. He is a versatile researcher-cum-educator and consultant having spent considerable time of his three decade career in research and university teaching. With a first degree in agriculture (SUA-Tanzania), a Masters in Human Nutrition from University of Otago in New Zealand and a Doctorate in Food Economics from University of Kiel in Germany, John Msuya combines academic and development expertise with a focus on fighting malnutrition and related consequences. Prof. Msuya’s expertise is mostly on socio-economic aspects of nutrition and food security, including policy issues and design and management of interventions, particularly in developing countries. He has served as a consultant and project collaborator for a number of national and international institutions including: the Government of Tanzania, UNICEF, FAO, CIDA, USAID, IDS-UK, Care International, AMREF, World Vision, Save the Children and PANITA. More recently, he has taken interests in the linkage between agriculture and nutrition, in the so called ‘Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture’.
