Biography
Born in Mudanya, Bursa in 1960. She studied urban and regional planning at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara. She completed her master's degree at Florida State University with a specialization in environmental planning and resource management. She completed her Ph.D. at the Faculty of Public Relations and Political Science, Ankara University, majoring in "City and Environmental Sciences". She was awarded the Social Sciences Second Award by Milliyet Gazetesi, with an article on "Urban Rights and its Implementation in Local Government" (shared with Yener Z., 1996). In that year, she also (with Yener Z.) translated "European Urban Charter" into Turkish for the Habitat II Summit held in Istanbul. Her research interests include all range of environmental studies and topics from theory to practice. As well as issues pertaining to human rights and participation in relation to environmental problems and urban environments. She has published many articles and papers in journals, books, and conference proceedings on related topics. Among her recently published articles and book chapters are: "Bioethics and Environment" (Prof. Dr. Yaman Ors Gift Book, Adana, 2005) and "Dilemma of National Interest and Environmental Ethics in the Case of Trans-Boundary Waters: Danube, Euphrates and Tigris" (in the proceedings of TMMOB Chamber of Civil Engineers, Water Politics Congress, Ankara, 2006). In addition to her academic involvement, she is also one of the founders and an active member of Science and Scientific Philosophy Circle that was established in 2000.
