Megan Thornton

Biography

Megan Thornton specializes in 20th- and 21st- century Latin American Literature and Culture, with a particular interest in Mexico and Central America. Her work has focused on how orality and testimonial narrative have represented migration and mobility in literature, music and film, and she successfully defended her dissertation entitled The Power of the Voice: Listening to Mexican and Central American Immigrant Experiences (1997-2010) in April 2010. Professor Thornton is also interested in border studies and Latin American women writers. Professor Thornton teaches all levels of Spanish at John Carroll. She has also spent time abroad in both Spain and Latin America and worked as a Consular Officer for the U.S. State Department in Hermosillo, Mexico in 2000-2002.
