Biography
He was born in 1970 and completed elementary, middle, and high school in Sorgun, Yozgat. Dr. Harun Bilirgen graduated in 1992 from Cukurova University, finishing at the top of his class in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He received a Masters and a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Lehigh University (ABD) in 2000. At Lehigh University’s Energy Research Center, Dr. Harun Bilirgen has worked as a Principal Research Scientist to innovate, develop, and implement technologies that increase the efficiency of existing coal-fired power plants while decreasing their emissions. His areas of expertise include combustion optimization using artificial intelligence techniques, development of NOx, SO2, SO3, Hg, particulate, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reduction technologies for electric generating utilities, CO2 fixation in custom-design photo bio-reactors using flue gasses from fossil-fired power plant stacks and wastewater from municipal wastewater treatment facilities, industrial assessments for reducing energy cost in small and midsized plants, slagging and fouling prevention in coal-fired boilers, Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling of single and two-phase gas-solid flow, and utilization of waste heat from coal-fired power plants to dry and enrich low quality lignite. Dr. Bilirgen has published over 150 technical reports, over 100 journal papers and international conferences, and 6 USA and 1 Turkish patent.
