Prof. Dr. Peyamİ Çelİkcan

Biography

He was born on 25.12.1961 in Ankara. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Communication, Radio Television and Cinema Department in 1986. In 1987, he started to work as a research assistant at the Gazi University Communication Faculty Radio Television and Cinema Department. In 1988, the Council of Higher Education went abroad to the United States with an Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship, and in 1990 received a master's degree from the University of West Florida in the field of Communication Arts. In 1994, he graduated from 9 Eylül University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Stage and Visual Arts, and earned his doctorate degree in film and television. He received associate professorship in 1996 and professor title in 2004. Celikcan has served as deputy chairman, dean and assistant rector at various universities. Finally, he served as the dean of the Faculty of Communication of the City University of Istanbul and as Vice Rector. Having lectured in the field of communication at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels, Celikcan gave seminars in training programs of various institutions and organizations at international and national level. He gave seminars on "Television Broadcasting" and "Documentary Production" to the programmers of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kosovo State TVs and gave workshops to the Palestinian Maan Agency reporters.   

Research Interest

Celikcan has worked as a project consultant in the projects carried out in the field of Radio and Television Broadcasters Vocational Association (RATEM) in order to determine profession standards and competences in publishing field; Isikci and Isikci have conducted vocational standards and qualification studies for assistant professions. Celikcan continues his academic studies in the field of media history, cinema history, popular music and documentary cinema. Celikcan also works in the field of addiction and serves as a consultant in international projects related to the subject. Lastly, he has been consulting on the "Drug Awareness on Adults (DAWAP)" project carried out by Yesilay in partnership with NGOs in the scope of ERASMUS and fighting against addictions from four countries. Celikcan is also a member of the International Documentary Association (IDA), a member of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies (NECS).
