Biography

He was born in Istanbul in 1967. After completing her primary education in Istanbul and middle and high school in Istanbul, Paris, Duino-Trieste and Brussels, she studied English and Arabic at Oxford University, Faculty of Oriental Sciences. After graduating in 1990, he returned to Turkey and started working in the private sector. In 1992, he left Istanbul University Faculty of Literature Department of Science History, which he was appointed as a lecturer at the invitation, one year later and the private sector returned. He started his studies at Bamberg University in Germany in 2004, He completed his PhD dissertation on the diaries of Ürgüplü Mustafa Hayri Efendi from Constitutional Revolutionary Shaykh al-Islam in 2012 and earned his doctor's title by publishing in 2014. During his Ph.D. thesis, he taught Turkish language and history at Bamberg and Bonn universities. He undertook the consultancy and interpreting of the project "Imams in Lower Saxony" jointly with the Otto Benecke Foundation of the Lower Saxony State Education, Integration and Sports Ministry. He then worked as an interpreter in a company that operates online language education. After returning to Turkey at the end of 2015, he started working as an editor at Yapı Kredi Publications in 2016. He is still working on Turkish language and history as well as this task. His published books include Åžeyhülislam Ürgüplü Mustafa Hayri Efendi's Constitutional Monarchy, Great War and Mutilation Diaries 1909-1922 (Ä°ÅŸ Bankası Kültür Yayınları, Ä°stanbul 2015); Åžeyhülislam Ürgüplü Mustafa Hayri Efendi's Maltese Letters (Ä°ÅŸ Bank Culture Publications, Istanbul 2016); The Correspondence of Sir Gerard Clauson: Turks and Other Peoples in Pre-Thirteenth Century Inner Asia / Sir Gerard Clauson's Letters: Turks and Other Tribes in Pre-13th Century Inner Asia (BoÄŸaziçi University Publications, Istanbul 2016). His main research areas are the Ottoman Empire and the Ottoman-Turkish cultural history during the modernization period and he speaks English, German, French, Italian, Russian, Arabic and Uzbek.
