Biography
Born in Alanya, the province of Antalya, in 1978, Prof. Çetin completed all his schooling in Ankara. From 1995 to 1999 he studied for his degree in biology at Akdeniz University Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In 1999, he started his master’s degree in Medical Genetics at the Institute of Health Sciences at Akdeniz University in the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics. Over the course of his studies, he conducted research into the origin of marker chromosomes and facilitated Turkey’s adoption of m-FISH anlaysis into routine molecular cytogenetic testing. In 2002, Prof. Çetin started his doctoral degree in medical genetics, again at the Akdeniz University Institue of Health Sciences and he finally graduated in 2008. During this time he was involved in research into the relationship between the molecular markers associated with the efficacy of drugs used in the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer and the survival rate of the patient. After completing his doctorate, Prof. Çetin continued his work at the Genetic Diseases Diagnosis Center at Akdeniz University. On 17 March 2014, he became an associate professor of medical genetics and in August 2014 he was appointed Chair of Medical Biology at SANKO University Medical School.
