Eyigun Can Polat

Biography

Born in Çifteler, EskiÅŸehir in 1960, Prof. Eyigün completed his secondary education at Yunus Emre Teacher Training School. He started his medical training in 1978 at Ankara University Medical School and, after an internship in 1983 at Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA), he graduated in 1984. After completing his military duties as a general practitioner in EskiÅŸehir, he started his specialty training in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology at GATA. He qualified in 1993, became associate professor in 1995, and a full professor in 2003. From 1996 to 1997 he worked with Prof. David H. Van Thiel in the Chronic Hepatitis and Liver Transplant Center at the University of Kentucky, Lexington. In 2005 Prof. Eyigün was appointed Chair of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at GATA, a post which he held until August 2014 when he retired. In October 2014 he joined the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at SANKO University Medical School. Married, with one son, Prof. Eyigün has a good command of English.
