Biography
Athanasios Mouratidis graduated from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He earned a Master degree in sports and exercise psychology from Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium and received his PhD from the same university in 2009. Since then he has been affiliated first with the Department of Psychology at the University of Leuven and later with the respective Department at the University of Ghent, Belgium. Before moving to TED, Athanasios Mouratidis was working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology in Hacettepe University.
Research Interest
In his research he mainly focuses on motivation in various achievement and applied settings such as education, sport, and family. He is particularly interested in examining how the social context and personal characteristics determine people’s motivation and in turn their functioning and well-being. His research has been published in a number of international peer-reviewed journals and he is a member of the editorial board in Psychological Reports, Sport Exercise and Performance Psychology, and Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy. Mouratidis has been awarded a 1001 TUBITAK-funded grant to study in a three-year longitudinal project adolescents’ academic success and well-being as a function of their quality of motivation and classroom and family environment.
