Biography
Aysel Saricaoglu completed her Bachelor’s degree in English Language Education at Mersin University, Turkey in 2007 receiving the first rank award of the Faculty of Education. Between 2007 and 2010, she worked as a foreign language instructor at Erciyes University School of Foreign Languages, Kayseri, Turkey and meanwhile completed her Master’s degree in English Language Education at Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. In 2009, she was awarded the Fulbright Doctoral Scholarship and pursued her PhD degree in Applied Linguistics and Technology at Iowa State University (ISU), IA, USA between 2010 and 2015. At ISU, Dr. Saricaoglu taught academic writing to non-native speakers of English at both undergraduate and graduate levels and her teaching skills were recognized by the Graduate College’s teaching excellence award in 2015. She also gained experience as a research assistant working in projects that focused on developing automated language assessment systems.
Research Interest
Her current research interests lie in the areas of automated writing evaluation, academic writing, systemic functional linguistics, computational linguistics, and corpus linguistics. She has disseminated her work at several international conferences including Second Language Research Forum (SLRF), the Computer-Assisted Language Instruction Consortium (CALICO), Technology for Second Language Learning (TSLL) and published in major journals in the field of computer-assisted language learning such as CALL and CALICO.
