Ercüment Çelik

Biography

He studied Sociology at the Middle East Technical University in Turkey before finishing his MA in the Global Studies Programme at the Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg, the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa and the Jawaharlal Nehru University in India. In 2009, he completed his PhD at the Institute of Sociology of the Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg, where he worked as a researcher and lecturer until 2015. He was also a faculty member of Global Studies M.A. Programme. Ercüment Çelik is awarded with Associate Professor title in 2015. He is recently awarded with a research fellowship by TÜBÄ°TAK, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, and conducts his research project at the Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University, Turkey. His dissertation, "Street Traders: A Bridge Between Trade Unions and Social Movements in Contemporary South Africa"​ (2010) was published by Nomos Publishers. In 2011, he received “The Young Social Scientist Award” of the Turkish Social Sciences Association for his dissertation.  He is the co-editor of “Global Knowledge Production in the Social Sciences: Made in Circulation” (2014), published by Ashgate. He has reviewed manuscripts for periodical journals such as Current Sociology, Feminist Economics, Global Labour Journal, Transcience a Journal of Global Studies, South African Review of Sociology, African Journal of Business and Economic Research, Çalışma ve Toplum, Ankara Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Dergisi. Ercüment Çelik is Editorial Board Member of Transcience, a Journal of Global Studies. He is also Board Member of scientific associations, such as International Sociological Association’s (ISA) Research Committees on Labor Movements (RC44) and Social Movements, Collective Action and Social Change (RC48), and Turkish Social Sciences Association.

Research Interest

Ercüment Çelik is Associate Professor of Sociology, whose research interests focus on the sociology of work and labour, industrial sociology, Southern Theory/Sociology, and global knowledge production and circulation.
