Biography
Åžinasi EllialtıoÄŸlu received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics from the Middle East Technical University (METU), in 1971 and 1973, respectively. While on leave from METU, he has finished his Ph.D. work in Condensed Matter Theory at the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1977 and returned to METU. He completed his Habilitation in 1982 and became Associate Professor in Solid State Physics, and in 1988 has been employed as Professor of Physics at METU. He has been granted JFK Fellowship for Basic Sciences (1967 – 1971) while at METU, O. M. Stewart Fellowship (1975 – 1977) and Postdoctoral Fellowship of NSF, National Science Foundation (1978 – 1980) while at UMC, Research Fellowships of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Institüt für Festkörperphysik, Kernforschungs-anlage, Jülich, 1984 – 1986), NATO-B (1995) and Fulbright Foundation (Georgia Tech, Atlanta, 1995 – 1996), as well as TÜBİTAK - Incentive Award in Science in 1987. He has been elected as the member of The Science Academy in 2013. Åžinasi EllialtıoÄŸlu served as the National Administrator of NATO Science Fellowships Programme (1988 – 1989), and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Group for Fostering Scientists, the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK, 1988 – 1989), Chairman of Physics Department, METU (1988 – 1994), Member of the University Administrative Board, METU (1992 – 1994), Member of the Advisory Board to Turkish Atomic Energy Authority, TAEK (1993 – 1996) and Member of the Advisory Board to the European High Pressure Research Group (1993 – 1996). Prof. Dr. Åžinasi EllialtıoÄŸlu has joined the academic faculty in TED University as the Director of Basic Sciences Unit since June 2012.
Research Interest
Professor EllialtıoÄŸlu’s research topics include theoretical investigations of electronic, optical, vibrational, and the structural properties of solids of semiconductors and metal-oxides, their surfaces, and their clusters. He has published two scientific books and over 60 articles on these subjects so far.
