Biography
Dr. HATISARU completed her B.S. in Mathematics Education at Dicle University in 1999. The same year, she started her teaching career and taught mathematics in public high schools and in elementary schools for ten years. While still teaching, she started to pursue an M.S. in Mathematics Education at Baskent University which she completed in 2008. In 2009, she started her PhD in Mathematics Education at Middle East Technical University. Aiming to focus on her studies, she quit teaching but continued working in the Department of Equivalence in Ankara Directorate of National Education. This position provided her the opportunity to examine the educational systems of different countries around the world including the Netherlands, USA, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. (This experience proved fruitful in a later course content called Mathematics Education in the World.) She received her PhD in 2013.
Research Interest
Her main research areas include student-based learning approaches, attitude towards mathematics, teacher knowledge (especially pedagogical content knowledge), the relationship between teacher knowledge and student learning, international comparison studies, and mathematics education in different countries.
