Ellen Cerreta

Biography

Ellen K. Cerreta is group leader, Materials in Radiation and Dynamic Extremes Group, Los Alamos National Laboratory. After earning both her master’s and doctorate degrees in materials science and engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Cerreta accepted a position within the Materials Science Division of Los Alamos. She joined the staff of Los Alamos in 2003 and, since that time, her research has been focused on the study of the mechanical behavior of materials and microstructural characterization with an emphasis on the relationship between microstructure and dynamic materials properties. Cerreta currently leads a number of projects to investigate dynamic materials performance and uses this information to advance predictive capabilities for strength and damage in extreme environments. An active TMS member for more than 18 years, Ellen Cerreta served on the Board of Directors from 2009 to 2012 as the Membership Director and was also chair of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials Committee. She has been a reviewer for Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A for almost 15 years and has been a key reader for that same journal since 2012. Cerreta was named to the 2013 Class of Brimacombe Medalists for recognition of her professional achievements at mid-career. She also received the 2004 Structural Materials Division Young Leaders Professional Development Award and the 2006 Japan Institute of Metals/TMS Young Leaders International Scholar Award.
