Biography
Chief, Department of Radiology Pediatric Specialists of America Chief, Section of Radiology Dr. Altman is employed by Pediatric Specialists of America (PSA), the physician-led group practice of Miami Children’s Health System. He has served as chief of the Department of Radiology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital since 1998 and been with Miami Children’s Health System since 1984. He has exclusive pediatric experience with expertise in neuroradiology and angiography. Dr. Altman is also PSA chief for the section of Radiology, an associate professor of radiology at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and a clinical professor of radiology for Florida International University. He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and conducted his residency in radiology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, followed by a fellowship in pediatric neuroradiology and interventional radiology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. His clinical interests include neuro-congenital malformations, metabolic diseases and tumors, and interventional treatment of low-flow vascular malformations. Dr. Altman was the recipient of the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology’s 2015 Gold Medal Award. He has received numerous grants and conducted research with an emphasis on functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Dr. Altman has lectured nationally and internationally and is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, Florida Radiological Society and the Dade County Medical Association. He has written chapters for a variety of medical textbooks and his work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Altman also holds appointments as a reviewer for the American Journal of Neuroradiology, American Journal of Radiology, Brain and Neuroradiology. Dr. Altman is on staff at the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital main campus. The Department of Radiology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital features state-of-the-art equipment. The radiology practice has been serving the community since the hospital's inception in 1950. Under Dr. Altman's leadership, the group is the largest in South Florida devoted exclusively to the practice of pediatric radiology. It includes board-certified experts in pediatric radiology, nuclear medicine, neuroradiology and cardiac CT imaging, with special interests in pediatric interventional and musculoskeletal disorders. The group oversees the only pediatric radiology fellowship program in South Florida, training radiology residents and fellows.
