Biography
Ms. Joan Hertz, Q.C. (Edmonton), serves as the Vice President of External Affairs and Corporate Counsel at NorQuest College. Ms. Hertz has over 25 years’ experience in board and stakeholder relations and is a practicing lawyer and strategic consultant with an expertise in governance. She served as Corporate Counsel, Strategic Affairs for Capital Health. Prior to joining Capital Health, she was in private practice of law at McCuaig Desrochers. Ms. Hertz has been an Independent Director of ATB Financial since 2008. She has been a Director at Edmonton Regional Airports Authority since January 11, 2016. She serves as Director of Edmonton International Airport. She has been a Board Member of Covenant Health since February 23, 2017. She serves as a Director of Alberta's Promise, Kid's Kottage Foundation. She served as a Director of Edmonton Catholic Cemeteries Board and St. Thomas More Lawyers Guild. She is involved in the selection of judges. She was awarded her Queen’s Counsel designation in 2008. She attained her professional designation (ICD.D) from the Institute of Corporate Directors in 2011. She is an active instructor of governance with the ICD Directors Education Program and the University of Alberta School of Business – Executive Education. Ms. Hertz graduated from the University of Alberta Law School with an LL.B., and Georgetown University in Washington D.C. with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree Magna Cum Laude in International Politics, Law and Organization, with a proficiency in French.
